This one Prompting Trick makes AI 10x smarter (and nobody's using it)

Stop accepting the first answer AI gives you. Here's how to make it consider 3 different approaches before deciding.

In partnership with

Hey there,

You ask AI a question. It gives you an answer.

You use that answer. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's mediocre. You never know which one you'll get.

Here's the problem. AI defaults to the first reasonable answer it finds.

Not the best answer. Just the first one that works.

There's a technique that fixes this. It's called Tree of Thought prompting.

You force AI to think through multiple approaches before picking the best one. Like having three experts debate instead of one person giving you their first thought.

The quality difference is massive.

How Tree of Thought Actually Works

Instead of asking AI for one answer, you ask it to:

  1. Generate 3 different approaches to solve your problem

  2. Evaluate each approach (pros and cons)

  3. Pick the best one and explain why

  4. Give you the final solution based on that approach

AI explores multiple paths. Considers tradeoffs. Then commits to the strongest option.

You get better results because AI did the thinking you would normally do manually.

The Simple Prompt Structure

Here's the framework you can copy and adapt:

"I need to [your task or problem].

Before giving me a solution, do this:

  1. Generate 3 different approaches to solve this

  2. For each approach, list the main pros and cons

  3. Evaluate which approach is best for my situation

  4. Use that approach to give me the final solution

Then provide your recommendation."

That's it. Five sentences. Completely changes the output quality.

Real Example: Writing a Sales Email

Standard prompt: "Write a sales email for my online course about freelance writing."

What you get: Generic pitch. Talks about features. Asks them to buy. Forgettable.

Tree of Thought prompt: "I need to write a sales email for my online course about freelance writing.

Before writing the email, do this:

  1. Generate 3 different approaches (story based, problem solution, social proof focused)

  2. For each approach, list pros and cons

  3. Evaluate which works best for this audience

  4. Use that approach to write the email

Then give me the final email."

What you get:

AI generates three approaches:

  • Approach 1: Story based (share a transformation story)

  • Approach 2: Problem solution (identify pain points, offer solution)

  • Approach 3: Social proof (lead with testimonials and results)

AI evaluates: "For freelance writing, problem solution works best because the audience is action oriented and wants to know exactly what they'll get."

Then AI writes an email using that approach. More strategic. More effective.

Why This Works Better Than Single Shot Prompting

When you ask for one answer, AI picks the path of least resistance.

When you force it to generate three options, AI has to actually think. It explores different angles. Considers what works best.

Then it commits to the strongest path with reasoning behind it.

You're not just getting output. You're getting AI's strategic thinking process.

When to Use Tree of Thought

Don't use this for every prompt. It's overkill for simple tasks.

Use it when:

  • The problem has multiple valid solutions

  • Quality matters more than speed

  • You're stuck and need fresh angles

  • You want to see different approaches before deciding

  • The task is strategic (positioning, messaging, planning)

Skip it when:

  • The task is straightforward (summarize this, fix this typo)

  • You need a fast answer

  • There's only one right way to do something

Advanced Version: Adding Constraints

You can make this even more powerful by adding constraints to each approach.

"Generate 3 different approaches:

  1. One optimized for speed

  2. One optimized for quality

  3. One optimized for cost

Evaluate which fits my priorities and use that."

Now AI tailors each approach to specific criteria before picking the winner.

The Reality

This technique takes 30 extra seconds to write the prompt.

But it saves you hours of back and forth. You get the right answer the first time instead of iterating five times.

Most people never push AI to think harder. They accept the first output and move on.

Smart people make AI do the work of exploring options.

Here's How to Use This Without Thinking

The framework works. But remembering to use it every time? That's where people fail.

You need prompts that already have Tree of Thought built in for specific tasks.

"Write a marketing email" becomes "Generate 3 email approaches, evaluate, write the best one."

"Create a content strategy" becomes "Propose 3 strategies, compare, recommend one."

I've built this into thousands of prompts across the 50,000+ in my bundle. The thinking structure is already there. You just add your details.

Right now it's $19.99. Goes to $97 in 48 hours.
